My Story

I am originally from Omaha Nebraska, and my wife Carol is from Hutchinson, Kansas. We met in LA and both wound up traveling with an international theater organization. We were married in Germany after three years and continued traveling with the theater company, where we directed and performed psychodramas designed to encourage people to think about values, family, and interpersonal communication. Other plays encouraged discussion about substance abuse, sexual harassment, and other religious themes. I had the privilege of performing in Canada, Europe, and Asia. Over that time, I learned a lot about people and the importance of human connection and attachment.

Family Changes Everything

Ā After moving back to the States (where my wife and I performed in every state except Alaska), we settled in Colorado and became a state certified foster home. Shortly after, we adopted a sibling group of three older children from foster care. Unfortunately, they had all undergone significant trauma and had major behavioral struggles. I became a stay-at-home dad and dug into all the research I could. We started learning about attachment, trauma responses, dissociation, and more. When a therapist told me I knew more about the children's struggles than they did, I decided something had to change. I got a second Bachelor's in counseling, became a certified social worker and worked for the local school district while pursuing further education to best support my kids. While working with children who had Special Education needs, I earned a Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, Trauma from the University of Denver and founded C.A.R.E. Inc.

Now...

I am a therapist specializing in complex PTSD, attachment, dissociation, narcissism, depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. In addition,Ā  at C.A.R.E. we work with Adoption Issues, Trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Dissociative Disorders, Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (c-PTSD), Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), Mood Disorders/Bipolar Disorder, Psychotherapy, Counseling, Couples Therapy, and Marriage Counseling.
